Skimofestival
The Italian event dedicated to ski mountaineering
Areas
Brief
A festival that sells experiences, not products
Skimofestival is a festival dedicated to ski mountaineering: a physical, multi-day event that brings together competition, training and community around one of the most technical and thrilling alpine disciplines.
A multi-layered format, with mountain guides, brand partners, equipment rental and a rich programme of experiences at different difficulty levels.
When the Skimofestival team came to us, the challenge was to build a digital platform able to handle all of this in a context that has nothing to do with classic product ecommerce.
The challenge
When complexity is the starting point
Skimofestival doesn't sell t-shirts or shoes: it sells experiences, registrations, rentals and moments. A model completely different from a traditional product catalogue, with technical requirements that called for tailor-made solutions from start to finish.
The project had to handle several distinct flows at once: free event registrations with a personal QR code generated for each participant, the purchase of experiences differentiated by day, level and type, sports equipment rental, and a dynamic programme with mountain guides and brand partners.
On top of this, the client already ran a blog on WordPress, with an archive of articles that couldn't be re-entered manually on a new platform.
The solution
A tailor-made digital ecosystem
A fully custom theme
Starting from a design created in Figma, we developed a custom, modular Shopify theme built on independent sections and snippets. The result is an interface tailored to the festival, where the team can edit text, images and blocks, create new pages and update content in complete autonomy.
Free registrations and QR codes
We built the event registration flow directly within Shopify, leveraging the native account creation system and adding the automatic generation of a personal QR code for every registered participant.
Managing experiences and a dynamic programme
Experiences were modelled as products with variants, using metafields to manage attributes such as difficulty level, the day of the activity and the specific features of each one. For the event programme and the free events we leveraged Shopify metaobjects, which let the client update the calendar dynamically.
Custom CRM integration via API
All participant data (registrations, purchases, attendance) was connected through a dedicated API integration with the client's CRM (ActiveCampaign). A centralised database that enables targeted communications before, during and after the event.
API integration with the WordPress blog
To solve the problem of the existing articles, we built a custom integration that fetches and displays the WordPress blog content directly within the Shopify store, automatically and always up to date.
